Question by Bill: How did the term Barbecue come about?
It’s so common now I don’t even think about it, but I just saw a bag of chips written as Bar-B-Q and thought it was weird. I guess you could write it that way, but it’s usually BBQ or the whole word, barbecue. How did it come about? Other flavors make sense because they explain what they are, for example, sour cream. It’s cream that’s sour. Other cookouts make sense, too, like a pig roast. It’s a pig, being roasted. So, what’s up with barbecue?

Best answer:

Answer by onetruerick2008
The word comes from the natives that Columbus and Spanish explorers encountered on Hispanola. They cooked meat over open fires and called it barbacoa.

What do you think? Answer below!

The Difference Between Barbecue Wood Chips

Smoke is an integral part of the barbecue process. It has been recognized since the ancient times as the best way to preserve meat for long periods of time, and now it is the most recognized way of adding flavor to your barbecue or to anything you can cook. Yes, people nowadays use smoke to enhance the flavor of meats, and one way of making great smoke is to use barbecue wood chips.

Barbecue wood chips are considered as one of the most effective sources of fuel for grilling and barbecuing. Many barbecue enthusiasts these days prefer the wood chips than the chunks, logs, and the charcoal for a number of good reasons. One of those is the fact that barbecue wood chips are generally inexpensive. They are marketed throughout the world and are easy to use and prepare. They even come in different types of wood, so the flavors vary accordingly.

Speaking of flavor, the barbecue wood chips are prepared from different kinds of wood which in turn provide a different flavor to what you cook. There are heavy woods and there are fruit woods. But, according to some, the difference between these types is very subtle. Well, below are few of the most well-known kinds of barbecue wood chips. So consider the following:

* Alder – The Alder barbecue wood chips are generally identified for their light flavor that is said to work best with poultry and fish. This is actually the traditional wood for smoking Salmon.

* Fruit – A number of flavors are associated with this kind of barbecue wood chips. There include cherry, apple, and apricot; all of them are recognized for their mild and sweet flavor that is great for smoking ham and poultry.

* Hickory – One of the most marketed types of barbecue wood chips is Hickory. This is known for its strong flavor that makes it perfect for grilling meat. However, because of its strong effect, it is important to make sure that you do not use hickory barbecue wood chips excessively as an excessive use of it will turn your meat bitter.

* Oak – This is but another strong wood for smoking. Just like Hickory barbecue wood chips, the oak is ideal for beef and lamb, and although it is strong, it is not overpowering. This is perhaps the reason that the oak barbecue wood chips are now considered as the most versatile type of hard woods.

* Pecan – This wood burns cool. It is also provides a delicate flavor to your barbecue. And, according to some, this is so far the subtler version of hickory barbecue wood chips.

There are other types of woods perfect for smoking or barbecuing, such as almond, black walnut, citrus, grapevines, mesquite, maple, ash, beech, cottonwood, guava, fig, and lot more. They are used by directly adding them to the coals, or by soaking the barbecue wood chips in water which will burn up pretty fast and create smoke when added to the fire. They are also packaged nowadays, but it is still very important to choose which best suits your personal grilling style.

I agree, we all make our own BBQ sauce and rubs the best at home or at work, but sometimes you’re in a crunch for time and the grocery store is your best friend, so I would love to hear what YOU buy when you can’t make your own?
Kansas City Barbecue: An Unforgettable Experience

Kansas City barbecue is very famous throughout the world for its one-of a-kind kind taste and flavor that no other places can match.

Do you like the taste of barbecued or grilled food? Do find barbecuing fun, or do you like having barbecue parties? If you are, there’s no doubt that you are a real barbecue fanatic. What is your favorite barbecue? Is it steak, sea food, chicken, hotdogs, sausage, or chops? Is everything about barbecue appealing to you? Wait, until you find out the best barbecue you can imagine- the Kansas City barbecue style. I don’t mean to make you hungry, I just want you to know the best barbecue there is.

Have you tasted the Kansas City barbecue style? Kansas City barbecues are very famous in the United States and to many countries. A society named Kansas City Barbeque Society or KCBS is even organized exclusively for people who love barbecue. Their members include barbecue enthusiasts at all levels in all United States and other countries of the world, from barbecue restaurant operators to back yard grillers, even barbecue suppliers are members of KCBS. This organization sanctions more than 50 barbecue contests every year and they also have a monthly news paper called the Bullsheet. The members of KCBS are subscribers of this newspaper that is worth $ 30 as inclusion of their annual membership.

If you want finger-licking, mouth-watering, lip-smacking barbecue, Kansas City has its very own. Kansas City has more than 90 barbecue joints that include little eateries to big restaurants that serve different kinds of barbecue. The Kansas City barbecue is dry, rub-spiced, and slow roasted over a pit hickory and the sauce- the sauce alone is the smoothest, thickest, richest, and sweetly tangiest! It has a sauce the does not fall off the meat into the fire, resulting to a medium spicy, tomato-based sauce. Can you picture no how delectable Kansas City barbecue is?

The history of the one of its kind Kansas City barbecue started with the first recorded Kansas City barbecuer, Henry Perry, who did his thing on barbecuing on a trolley barn, which became the training ground for other local barbecue legends like George Gates and Arthur Charlie Bryant, who followed the footsteps of Henry Perry. Charlie Bryant bought Perry’s place and managed it with the help of his brother Arthur. When Charlie died Arthur took over the restaurant and named it Arthur Bryant’s barbecue restaurant. Arthur Bryant’s is a legendary Kansas City barbecue restaurant where the famous Kansas City barbecue started. You can visit its website at www.arthurbryantsbbq dot com for your additional information about this restaurant.

At about the same time that Arthur had his restaurant running, George Gates and a partner opened their own restaurant. Eventually, Gates took over the business and taught his son, who now runs the famous Gates & Sons Bar-B-Q. You can visit Gates & Sons website at www.gatesbbq dot com for more information.
Kansas City barbecue is very famous throughout the world for its one-of a-kind kind taste and flavor that no other places can match.

Question by speakeasy71: Does anyone know who makes the Banyan BBQ sauce next to Disneylands Indiana Jones ride?
There is a place next to the Indiana Jones ride where you can get skewers of beef, chicken or shrimp. You can also purchase “Tiger Tails” which are nothing more than odd shaped bread sticks. They have a beef skewer called Banyan BBQ, but the cashier couldn’t tell me the manufacturer of the sauce, because she didn’t know. This BBQ type sauce is really good, if someone knows who makes it or how to make it I appreciate your advice.

Best answer:

Answer by joniboni
Goodness, you hurt my brain. I found these recipes and sites. I could not download the recipe from the official site, not smart enough apparently.

Look and see what you think. You might try one of the official sites and ask them directly for the recipe or the distrubutor.

Hope one of these works for you, would love a good barbecue about now.\
Here they are:

BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

58 ozs Ketchup
7 ozs Rice Wine Vinegar
4 ozs Molasses
2 Tbsps Chili Powder
2 Tbsps Paprika
2 tsps Tumeric
2 tsps Ground Cumin
2 Tbsps Garlic Salt
1/2 tsp Ground Cloves
2 Tbsps Onion Powder
16 ozs Water
2 Tbsps Brown Sugar

or

Yield 2 3/4 cups
Portion Size: 6

1 cup Soy Sauce
1 1/2 cups Water
1 Tbsp. Ground Black Pepper
3 Tbsp. Sesame Seed Oil
1 tsp. Ground Red Pepper
1/2 tsp. Cayenne Pepper
1 Tbsp. Granulated Garlic
3 Tbsp. Cornstarch
18 one-ounce pieces Sirloin Beef Chunks
6 Bamboo Skewers

Combine all of the ingredients above and bring to a boil, adding cornstarch to thicken. Soak the bamboo skewers in water to avoid burning. Place 3 pieces of beef on each skewer and cook on the grill 3 minutes on each side or until desired doneness. Brush with sauce and serve.

Happy cooking!

What You Need To Know Before You BBQ

With the days getting longer and the warmer weather setting in, many people are starting to plan their evening and weekend activities to take place outdoors. And as summer approaches, the outdoors are bound to offer even more – whether it’s perfect weather in your backyard, or beautifully clear scenery atop the nearest hiking hills.

However, while the spring and summer months – and the warmer weather that comes with them – might have many of us wishing we could take off on extended holidays or weekly mini-breaks, jobs and daily responsibilities await. So when you can’t take off on a holiday, why not take advantage of the splendid weather by continuing to plan outdoor activities – even if it’s just reading a book or eating outside as the sun sets.

One of the best ways to take advantage of the great spring and summertime weather is to hold outdoor BBQs. And because they don’t require a lot of fuss, you can have one after work on weekdays, or during weekends. All you need is a BBQ (along with some gas or coal), something to cook, and a little knowhow!

Indeed, meals are always better when the chef knows a bit about how to prepare the food. But, of course, there are many ways to cook in such a manner and many different things you can prepare – from ribs and steak to vegetables and even fruit! So you might want to start off with a few simple recipes, and expand your knowledge from there.

A lot of great barbeques start with a great marinade. So depending on the type of meat or vegetables you plan to cook, you’ll want to buy – or prepare from scratch – a complimentary marinade. It’s easy to find recipes online or in recipe books; but keep in mind that some recipes require you to marinade for a few hours, while others ask that you marinade for a few days! So you’ll want to pick your recipe based not only on what you’re intending to cook, but how much time you have to marinade.

Another tip to keep in mind is that there is a difference between barbequing and grilling. Many people grill on their BBQs, which also produces a tasty effect; but this often takes a lot more time, at a lower temperature. For example, beef ribs should be cooked at a low temperature for a long enough time – about 6 to 7 hours – to render the fat and tenderize the meat. However, chicken doesn’t take as long – about 4 to 6 hours – depending on the size of the cuts.

One more thing to consider is that different types of charcoal, gas and wood will give you different taste results. For example, while many might prefer the simplicity and cleanliness of gas barbeques, others prefer the smoky flavor they can achieve by using charcoal. However, you can always get similar results with gas by using wood chips in a foil packet while cooking; therefore, it’s worth experimenting with gas, charcoal and wood as you expand your knowledge to ultimately develop your own cooking style.

Finally, it is important to remember that many BBQs offer a range of features and accessories. So before you purchase one, ensure you know exactly what it comes with, that way you’ll know what types of tools you will have to work with.

Question by brevejunkie: Need a good recipe for bbq sauce?
Does anyone have a good recipe for bbq sauce? I’m making pork bbq in the crock pot, and I want a really delicious sauce to go with it. Nothing too spicy, as my 3 and 2 year old sons will be eating it as well!

Best answer:

Answer by whiskeyman510
I whipped up some last night as I didn’t have any. This is what I did:

1 sm can tomato paste
3 TBS molasses
2 TBS maple syrup
4 TBS dijon mustard
2 TBS mustard powder
1 Tsp onion salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup water
2-3 TBS olive oil
salt & pepper to taste

You could also add a dash of worchestshire, and you could do all dijon if you don’t have the powder.

If you don’t have molasses and/or maple syrup, add a few TBS of brown sugar. You could also add a few drops of liquid smoke if you like that smoky flavor.

This version isn’t spicy at all.

I just mixed it all in a sauce pan over medium low heat, until it was heated through.

If it’s too thick, add more water and/or oil.

This made a little over a cup of sauce, so double if needed.

What do you think? Answer below!

BBQ Catering – The Best in the SF Bay Area

It is quite a rare sight when we encounter members of the same family eating and enjoying the food together. With every member having a different lifestyle and different working hours this kind of situation is quite expected. Gone are the days when the whole family would sit at the dinner table where they would not just share their food but would also share anecdotes from their daily life. In fact, one might even go on to say that this was the driving force behind the bonding of family members. Nowadays people hardly seem to have the time to bond over food. In this type of a situation, the idea of barbeque seems to be quite enticing.

Barbeque refers to traditional way of grilling food in wood fire outdoors. Barbeque is a pleasurable form of eating. It provides both an opportunity for family bonding as well as a mode of leading a healthy lifestyle. The first thing that comes to mind when we think of barbeque is cooking outdoors amidst nature. In a sense, it offers a great chance to go back to our roots, Mother Nature. However, one must remember that barbeque does not just mean common grill. In fact, the entire concept of barbeque comprises of different recipes, methods of cooking, various tools and plenty of accompaniments. Barbeque also plays an important role in helping family members and friends collaborate. Barbeque is a quintessential mode of cooking of the Americans. However, nowadays the mode has become quite popular throughout the world and millions of people are enjoying the tasty and fat-free food.

Professional BBQ Caterers are most adept in cooking barbeque in the most authentic fashion. Their quality of food as well as their service should be commendable. Whether it is a gathering of 20 people or 2000 people, they should be able to cater to them with equal efficiency. Many quality BBQ Caterers cook in signature BBQ pits in full view of the guests. They are skilled at making a long list of lip smacking delicacies. Along with the most authentic Tri Tips made up of juicy and tender cut beef, they make smoked chicken, luscious St. Louis Style pork ribs and hickory smoked turkey. To give a genuine taste of barbequed food to its customers some BBQ Caterers use imported smokers. They slowly smoke each item to make sure that the smoky taste reaches the bone of every piece and then they grill them over an oak wood flame.

They use authentic barbecue pits actually made in the Santa Maria Valley (home of the Tri-Tip. They are committed to the serving of only the highest quality food using the freshest ingredients available. With all the problems that the modern western society is facing, such practices of opting for barbecue can be helpful in order to maintain the integrity of the society.

In Barbecue Joints, travel the highways and byways with a true barbecue aficionado, David Gelin, and share the scrumptious odors of hickory pits and the tangy sauces and rubs that make barbecue the signature dish of the South. Look closely and you will recognize a South where barbecue is a kind of national dish and the people who cook and serve it are, well, national heroes. This book is not just about the joints, but even more so about the good folks who are the heart and soul of them. Barbecue

Another Use For Bbq Sauce

I have a friend who lives in Australia, and we love to send food and other interesting items to each other. We try to send things that we can’t get in our own countries, and some of the things she has sent me were rather interesting. If you ever get the chance to try musk sticks straight from Australia, I urge you to turn heel and run away as fast as you can. If you want to know what they taste like, just go get a bottle of perfume and spray it in your mouth. If you like that, you’ll like musk sticks. Most stuff has been good though. I have sent many things that my friend likes, but her favorite by far was the BBQ sauce that I had sent her last year.

The BBQ sauce that I sent her was made in a city nearby, and was not really available anywhere else. You can get it in my region of my state, and it is somewhat famous in the area, but I knew she could not get it over there. I don’t know how much different it is from the BBQ sauce that she normally uses, but she emailed me excitedly to tell me that it was the best she had ever had, and she wanted to know when I could send her some more.

What struck me as funny was that she is a vegetarian – which I didn’t realize when I sent the BBQ sauce in the first place – but she still wanted more. She explained that they had used it on their veggies, and that it had been great for that purpose. She conserved as much of it as she could because she knew that I couldn’t afford to send her a bottle every month of the year. Though she does know that the more Tim Tams she sends me the more BBQ sauce she can get out of me.

She doesn’t know it yet, but I think I have found something to send her that she will really love. It is the same BBQ sauce that she loves, but what I have found is even better. There is a gift pack out for the holidays that includes that flavor and five others, all by the same company. She is going to be beside herself when she gets it. Each type of BBQ sauce is a different flavor and she can experiment to her hearts content.

Weber’s chimney starter makes starting your charcoal a snap. It also cuts down the amount of time it takes for the coals to get ready. Just load up our extra large cannister full of coals, light up a fire starter or crinkled up newspaper, and set the cannister over the flame. In a matter of minutes the coals will be red hot. Who ever thought it could be so easy?
